Well no freebee from the dealer...no suprise. Thanks to PowerStrokeHD i found one online and will be ordering soon. Just hope the install goes well. It looks like my freeze plugs are push in type, what is the best way to remove? Screwdriver and pliers ? Pop a hole in it with screw driver and pull out with pliers.

The installation location for the element is right side (passenger) rear of the block. Unless things have changed, it should have a threaded plug in it. Here is a link to a pic of what your looking for...

I disagree. Last winter when temps were below 0° F I could have my coolant temps in the 60s with two hours of block heater. Once the ECT got past 100° I had heat, but not much. It took MUCH less time for my truck to go from 60-100 than 0-100. I noticed heat much faster!

11red250, why specifically do you feel that you need the block heater? Technically it's not required unless you're doing cold starts at -10°F or below. The truck will start just fine at anything above that. If it were me I'd just go without one!

Well in that case a block heater would work for your needs. Not a huge amount, but you would see hot air a bit faster than you would otherwise. It's still surprising that your truck was ordered without one!

OEM option...

Element - Ford P/N: BC3Z-6A051-A (MSRP $30.43)
Cord - Ford P/N: BC3Z-6B018-C (MSRP $135.77)
I just got mine delivered this afternoon, I ordered from partsguyed,
element $21.91, and cord $97.75, I know I coulda got the cord cheaper as aftermarket, but I mean it's a $50,000 plus truck, I never understand the quibbling over small money parts on a very expensive truck; and I want the FoMoCo wire with all the heat protection wrap, and the little push in anchors so when I install it tomorrow it'll be exact as oem.

I also remember reading somewhere(dieselstop maybe) that the reason for the big $$$ for the dealer install is because they drain the coolant for the install, and won't reuse it, and it's pricey. I'm going to just back out that freezplug and stick my finger over the hole as I thread in the heat element, I might lose a little coolant, but I am not draining the whole thing over it.

Want a cheaper solution, here's what you want on ebay,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=170719085499

look at that cord compared to the one in my picture, big difference in my opinion, I'm way too **** to just throw in a part because it's cheaper though. However I'm all for shopping around for the best price, on the oem part I am loooking for- nothing wrong with getting the best price as long as I don't have to sacrifice product for dollars.

good luck, I'll let you know how the install goes. Doing it in the AM

Watch out for the block heaters being sold on eBay. Most are Kats brand and are just not of the same quality as ZeroStart...

I agree. I park in garage every night but I still plug it in in the winter. It starts just fine no matter the temps inside or out when not plugged in, but it seems to appreciate plugging it in as I don't get the whine I get without plugging it in. Also, it definitely start blowing hot air quicker than without....and I have the supplemental cab heater as well.

For the whine, do you mean the turbo owl sound (I call it my friendly truck owl)?
I wonder how the block heater prevents that.
If that's the case, I guess cold oil makes it whine?
I might consider having this installed whenever my coolant is due for replacement (many thousands of miles in the future) just to get rid of that noise most of the time.

Yeah, that's exactly it. the friendly owl sound that lasts for 2-3 minutes when starting the truck in cold temps. When I plug it in, I don't get it. When I don't plug it in, it's back. Again, I've heard it's no big deal, but it just seems like the truck appreciates being plugged in, so I do it. haha.

I can't remember who posted it, but I took the advice to string the extension cord over my driver's side mirror so that I don't forget it's plugged in....

I'm going out in a few minutes to install my heater and cord, I'll try to snap as many Pic's as I can while doing it. Maybe I can make a video, I have one of those helmet cams- I'll give it a whirl.

For us that are intellectually challenged in this stuff. My Window sticker says block heater but I cannot seem to find the Cord to connect to. Where do they hide this thing?
