LOL ben, it has been raining all day...I am so freakin bored.. wondering myself.
I should have been doin some clean up in the garage, but I think the turkey has put me into kickback mode...
Well I did get the oil changed and checked out plugs wires etc. all of that looked good.... Now for the bad part the carb. is totaly froze up and full of old wasp nests I took it off and it does not apper that anything went into intake. The rest of the fuel system is going to be a problem because, This truck had two gas tanks one behind the seat which is missing and one behind drivers side running board which appears to be full of rust.
So a friend stoped buy and thinks he may have carb to try and now I have the nuts for the tank soaking in wd-40.
Does anybody know were the best place is to look for tanks? Also is there a way to determine what year the 292 is?
Again thanks for all the replies from all of you.
If I do get it going the people in the next county may hear it the exhaust is off at the last manifold!!!
Hey Iowa,
Are you sure the one behind the seat wasn't removed on purpose &
installed out back? It sounds like your truck has been re-done at some point in the past - this gas tank relocation is a very common retrofit.
We put our tank out back between the frame rails toward the rear - used a 1970 22 gallon mustang tank. (Search on this site gas tank - there are a ton of articles with suppliers listed). I think I used a place called "gas tanks unlimited" - paid around $150.
Have you tried flushing your tank? Too much rust? Keep plugging along you are making good progress!
Just wanted to update those who replied before. It was running!! My ten year old son is beside himself and I am pleased so far myself.
My buddy rebuilt the carb. and my son and I put most of the exhaust back together so we could hear any problems and checked out the wiring before replacing batt. Oil presure went right up to 50 psi and it was running smooth however the fuel pump is not working so I am looking for a replacement this week. My friend brought over a inline elec. pump to get it running and then that pump stopped working (we were just running out of a gas can). Our next step is to replace pump and run it a hour or so and make sure it keeps oil pressure and see were the leaks are and I also need to look at this tank on the truck to see if it is any good.
