fuel pump advise??

Pulled the mask off vader the other day cause diesel was drippin off the valley and such. This trucks been sittin for four years while I chased problems and procrastinated mostly, so I wanna go ahead and do fuel bowl, pump, and everything else that requires takin the star wars mask off.

I need to know if there is some sort of upgrade and or mod fuel pump. I'm stock now but intend to order bowl o-rings, 3in down pipe and 6637(?) From riff-raff maybe....intend to do a 6 pos? after the bugs are gone.

Good advice from good peoples is priceless, I thank & worship you all

What would be a good name brand of pump to get? Does it come with a new banjo washer.

Also is it driven by a lobe on the cam or a type of gear that might need to be checked for lift or cleaned?

Thanks again for ya'lls time

it's driving by the cam

Throw a 3in down pipe for me, I wanted to research 3in vs 4in downpipe and if its worth going 4in for my application

I'll let everyone know how the project goes and try to get pics of my mechanical declination

4" DP isn't worth it IMO. Plenty of guys making 400+HP on a 3" DP to a 4" straight exhaust. Add to that the fact that fairly substantial firewall "modifications" have to be made to fit a 4" DP and it's just not worth it unless you're looking for really high HP numbers and willing to spend $$ to get you there.

Thx so much for that. Kinda what I was thinkin. I don't see myself goin too big. I do plan to mod it and rebuild turbo. Slight injector work probably. Just enough increase in power to be efficient is what I'm lookking for. I ain't gonna be doin 4lo launches or anything. If I was to go big anyways I would prefer two turbos and two 3in downpipes maybe.

Thx for ya'lls feedback.. if you can think of anything else I need to do while under the mask...feel free to suggest. Im open to all knowledge.

On diesels, the results are better if you do them in series, one small turbo and one bigger turbo, right after one another, verses what you see in parallel setups, like one on each side. Just a thought

FWIW, many of us have removed the mask and never put it back on. I still have mine in the loft above the shop, but when I did this motor swap, I removed the mounts for it. Leave it off if you want, but if you're going for that "clean stock" look I guess I can understand that.

I'm not into clean or pretty, I want it to work!! Anyway, I found a complete exhaust system for sale because a guy wanted a 5". It came with a 3 1/2" DP and it was a real bitch to get in. It took me all day laying in a foot of snow to get it in. I had to bend the crap out of the firewall to get it in. Like what is said above, 3" in just fine.

That's good to know even 3.5 is pushin it...guess I'll stick to 3. I got it straight already past the down pipe. While we're on the subject which brand d.p. has worked the best. Do you have to modify where it ties in under the truck. For length or anything?

Lots have had problems fitting the mbrp downpipe. I got a dp from tymar, 3-4 inch, and it fit excellent, although cost a little more.
