Audio -- Speakers behind seats
Think I'm going to end up putting the 6.5 Kenwoods in my Jeeps sound bar and go with the 6x9's behind the seats and buy one of those cealing kits that moves the radio and speakers to above you. Looking forward to it. Sick of no sound in the truck.
Hey bud,
I have the 5 1/2 in my doors and two 6x9 in boxes (facing up instead of facing the back of the seat) in my '74 Explorer. I am also using a head unit by Custom AutoSounds Custom Autosound Radio Models so I maintained the dual ***** for my dash. It sounds great, and I can add a sub or sat radio if I ever drive it more.

According to their chart they fit! Our door panels are designed for speakers so you won't be using the speaker covers that come with your new speakers. I thought you might be interested in seeing what is under the door panels, in case you haven't seen any yet. Here is a pic I borrowed from belk42's

Thanks for the info! I'm not big into audio and never have been so I've got a l ot to learn about hooking up more than one speaker.
I saw on LMC truck that you can buy that dash speaker pretty cheap. Might replace that one to go with the two speakers above my head and the two behind the seats.
of course the dash speaker will be first to get replaced as i still have a ****ty tape deck normal radio player in there.

Im currently redoing this interior, but heres my setup. All the speakers are alpine components with a 400 watt amp and a 10" kicker L7 with a 500 watt amp.I have a pioneer head unit. I spent a lot of money on the audio for my truck, but Its worth it for me. It doesnt have to be this powerful of a system, but just make sure you use quality equipment that will last. Also when you install speakers in you doors make sure you buy foam baffles for them, Its a foam cup that your speakers sit into and it keeps the elements away from your speakers. Theyre pretty cheap only $10 a pair.

I wouldnt buy the headliner kit from LMC with the speakers in it, having sound blast right in your face isnt going to sound good. And honestly a lot of the stuff LMC makes is crap. Also I wouldnt put any speakers in the dash either. The only thing I have in my dash are tweaters for the speakers in my kickpanels. What I would do is stick with the 6 1/2" speakers in your doors, which is plenty loud enough in a small cab even without an amp. And if you want more sound add a couple 5 1/4" speakers in the kickpanels, but that will require cutting or add a couple of 6x9 in an enclosure behind the seat, these will also give you some bass. As for behind the seat if you want even more bass then buy a thin mount sub and build an enclosure, but then your going to need an amp. Just make sure you do a little research before you decide to buy cheap speakers from LMC. I usually buy from sonicelectronix.com, they have good deals and carry quality stuff. The thing with audio is you get what you pay for, so if you only want to spend $50 on a set of speakers then they are going to sound like crap. I prefer Alpine speakers and Kicker subs. Depending on what models you get they can be pricey, but its worth it.

Thanks for all the info! You will probably be getting a PM from me when I start my "go at it". I still need to buy a new "head unit" I think you Audio guys refer to it as. The tape deck one has got to go. Any recommendations on that? It needs to have an AUX plug in as none of my cars have one (01 Maxima and 01 Wrangler Sahara) and it pisses me off that I can't listen to my music in the car. At least I will get to in the old truck.
I like Pioneer or Alpine, but most head units nowadays come with an aux port. Go on to sonic electronix.com and you can search their head units and speakers, you can basically research on their website because people will leave a lot of reviews on whatever you need. Also I buy most of my audio stuff on ebay brand new, I usually research it on sonic and then buy on ebay for a real good price. Sonic charges me tax because I live in CA so on expensive things I just buy from ebay.
