i posted before about lack of power steering while backing up or trying to fit into a tight parking spot, ive searched and read all the threads about flushing the fluid, installing anewpump, replacing the steering box, etc. So short recap just hit 90k, truck had new steering box at 29k under warrenty due to leaking adjuster bolt washer, front end has under year old Moog ball joints, new ujoints in axle. les than a month ago i did the synthetic ATF swap in the steering system which did nothing but lighten my wallet. Im about to really run my truck into the river this weekend. I hauler away two 50ft oak trees this past weekend on my 16ft trailer and this junk ford power steering system wouldnt budge my tires while trying to back into the guys driveway, i was almost man handling it to turn in the street while the pump would make a soft winning sound asi cranked on the wheel. Then of course its getting into the forty at night here and ever morning the dam truck wont turn either untill i get themotor up to temp. Besides throwing a grand into a new steering box and pump what can you do to actually fix the problem? High pressure pump for more power?
like i said i allready installed new ball joints and ujoints, pumped the tires to 50psi which did nothing but rock my fillings out if i had some, flushed out old (crystal clean i might add) fluid for synthetic, removed my steering stabilizer which didnt help ither. I just dont want to throw money when i dont have much to spare unless i KNOW it will fix my problem
I dont know Scaler , I have pretty much done the same exact things you have and my steering is marginal at best. As you know it sounds like the redhead box is supposed to be the bomb but I dont have the cash for that either. With yours it almost sounds like the pump not putting out enough pressure or the presure relieve valve bypassing the fluid. I guess I would try a pump first maybe a junkyard pump just to see if it is any better without spending a ton of cash.
its pricey but if it can turn 44" boggers at a dead stop i guess ill start saving up. Ill add it on the wish list next to the V10 swap ive been planing
