I have my user account from Ford activated, but I have never activated my sync?
I wasn't quite sure of the advantages?? and I felt initially-- that it is one less thing that big brother can monitor.
what are your thoughts? do you have your Stroker beast connected via sync? any advantages or disadvantages that I am overlooking??
I love Sync. It can be quirky, and she's fun to fight with, but I love it for answering the phone and making calls, and directing the entertainment. It has the turn by turn, but I don't use it because I have a Tom Tom hooked up. I haven't done the health report, either, yet (only had the truck a few months).
Fire it up... its fun. Only wish there was a way for it to tell me what albums I have plugged into it.
Oh! And there is a second USB port hidden away in the dash... USB2, if you will.
No, I was specifically looking for a truck that did not have sync or the advanced security group (door keypad) but had the electric cab heater, fog lamps, and a vinyl floor. After looking at 27 other trucks I finally found one that was exactly as I specified. Fleet leftovers are the best.
My issue was paying $500 for a USB port (oh I guess 2 of them), which would enable putting music on a USB mass storage device instead of CDs, but I don't feel it's worth that price.
The important part of it for me was the phone features. They say it will read texts and emails, but it isn't compatible with my phone. The hands-free feature makes it worth the accessory for me... The music feature is a bonus.
I love my Sync. I use it for the phone as I take a lot of conference calls in the truck. I like being able to speak commands for the media and I like that I can play Pandora via Bluetooth in the truck.
The jack for the cable is facing the firewall... I had to use a mirror to see where it was, and then was able to slide the cable into it. My dealer claimed he couldn't get a cable for the USB2 port, so the one I listed above fits in the slot, and is snug, so it doesn't loosen and fall out.
What I really meant to ask: is if you use sync myride.com for tracking health of your vehicle etc.?
I went to the site today and if I understand it right it eventually takes a paid subscription to use for tracking health of your truck.I do all my own maintenance anyway. I may be wrong but I am not going to pay if it takes that. I already pay for satellite radio. I really like the phone features in the vehicle and use them all the time.
I love the Sync but really just for the bluetooth and media. I don't use the others features. I've tried a few features out but the directions, traffic, etc... seem a bit too slow for me. I run GPS off of a marine chart plotter in my truck anyway. I'd rather track my maintenance myself, I tend to be very pro-active where that is concerned.
My wife now insist I cannot own a vehicle without Sync in it: I had had a drunk driver slam into me in my F150 and totaled both trucks. I never saw it, don't remember it, and woke up next day in the hospital after being life flighted. Sync called 911, worth every $.

If i'm not, I don't know it and they are not telling me! Luckily it was just an open head wound, nothing fragile there. LOL
State Trooper had to change the charge against the other driver because they filed it as intoxicated manslaughter. Trooper told me "I was convinced you were not going to make it". Sorry to create extra paperwork and all but...
