Plenty of threads in the 6.7 forum where guys are getting 20+ mpg's out of their trucks.

That is where I got my info form and made my decision when I bought the 6.2. I guess it would be the same as someone with the 6.2 telling me they are getting 15 in the city, it will never happen with stop lights during the day.

yep, I read threads like that in the 6.4 section and when I bought my truck I was sorely disappointed with the mpg's that were far less than those claimed...take it for what it's worth.

Very true. Plus the inconvienance of fuel additives , letting the truck run 3 minutes before shutting down to cool the turbos, regens at the worst possible times.... the 6.4 had power to spare but the operating economy wasnt there. I very happy I made the 6.2 switch. Exceeds expectations so far.

Understandable, but I wonder what your truck would get if that same guy got behind the wheel and drove your truck around his normal route..

There's too many variables to closely compare mpg's on trucks.

Agree 100% on both accounts. I remember waiting on mine when I ordered it, felt like it took forever.

Do you have a VIN yet? If so, you should have a build date fairly soon if you don't already . Call your dealer every Friday for an update (I think they get updates late Thursday).

Your window sticker should show up online about a week or so before it's built, you can keep checking here (replace X's with your VIN):

Code:

I don't have a VIN yet, I'm going to stop by the dealer next week on my way home from work and see what they've got to say.

My calculation was based on kmonty2's claim that he only gets 10 mpg in mostly city driving.

But, let's take a more generic example. I asked a local contractor with 6.2 L what he was getting, and he said about 14 mpg, if he keeps his foot out of it. He does a mix of city and highway driving, half and half each. Of course, he does a fair amount of miles per year, but we can scale up the example later.

So, 14 mpg at 12,000 miles a year = 857 gals of gas, at 3.15/gal = $2700

Lets use an optimistic scenario for a diesel, at 20 mpg, 12,000 miles a year, consistently, regardless of whether you're towing or not.

For the diesel, that's 12,000 miles/20 mpg = 600 gals of diesel, at 4 bucks a gallon = 2400 bucks.

Direct savings = 300 bones a year savings by getting the diesel

Diesel option cost of $7500 (give or take a bit) divide by 300 = 25 years to pay off.

Say you drive double that, at 24,000 miles a year = 12.5 years to pay off.

Not taking into account that every oil change is 15 quarts, so an extra 8 quarts (2 gals) of motor oil is needed....

Hmm..I may just have to order a 2012 6.2 L gasser soon...LOL...I'm talking myself into it. Of course, it has to be approved by the wife, we'll see how this winter goes...

Hah !
