Anyone here built a 460 Stroker motor and looking for the pro's and con's between the 4.3 and 4.5 stroke cranks? Building an engine for a fairly heavy truck that will be driven mostly on the street, but will also be used occasionally played with in the Dunes or Sand Drags. I am using a 96 block that has already been sonic checked and planning to run 30 over. I have been searching the internet for a few weeks and trying to see what people are saying between the two cranks, but have not found a ton of info. Open to any input.
I have used the 4.3" in a all out race engine and was great adn thinking of going with a 4.5"
But in your application stay with the 4.3" IMHO. This will allow you to use a 6.7" rod and give a little more room for rings on the piston and doesn't push on the side of the cylinder as much thus better longevity. Yes it's minor but it does make a difference.
Plus a 521 makes plenty of power especially when running stock profile heads (even the alum heads use stock port locations)
After talking to a few people, I have decided to go with the 4.3 stroke crank and .030 over so it will be a 521. Sounds like a good balance between street and play, with plenty of power.
I built a 557 back in '05 for my '94 crew/dually. I run a SDS computer and a separate tranny computer. This is my driver too. It has a fresh set of EFI heads, a Voodoo cam, L&L headers, and a few other extra goodies. It yanked my 32ft enclosed trailer stacked to the roof all the way from southern Oregon to Louisiana at 80mph like it was a train on a mission. I can boil the tires with a 40ft goose Trash trailer attached or at random. It is like driving a 5.0 Mustang. It's there when you want it. I don't ever have to spin it over 3500 RPM.
