heres a good one. since ive been ill my friend has been doing a lot of my hauling. i picked up my trailer fri to pull a bobcat home to do some work. the trailer has 1 broken tailight, 3 different tires then when it left (not new either) and the wheels seemed loose. i fixed the light, creeped up a parking block to get the back wheels up and check the back axle wheels. yes the hubs were loose. i popped the caps of and the nuts were loose. there were no pins through the nut to keep them tight. then i backed up the block and checked the front, yes they were loose too. i tightened them up and no pins either.
i put them tight maybe too tight. how tight do they go? they should spin free? i have too redo it cause it still doesnt have pins yto hold the bolt. the had metal in the wholes like thwere used to be pins but they didnt exist anymore. ill have to clkean the grease out and drill out the metal so a pin whiill work.
any way my buddy helped me by hauling for me and making us all money and business but damn, he was ruff!!! he said 1 tire went flat all the time and the other 2 he hit a curb going around a corner and rubbed the sidewalls.
If I were you I would do 2 things. 1.) pull the hubs clean, inspect, and re-install the bearings, with the pins ASAP. 2.) Dont loan your trailer anymore.
will not loan it to him again. he was trying to help but has cost a lot. dropped off all wheels for new tires today. i also found the wires on the back axle were cut sxo i fixed them aqs well.
I agree with GAV10. Don't let that guy use your tailer again. Somthing else that will help is to install some bearing buddys. You can probably pick them up at a local WallMart or any go auto parts store:
I really don't understand the comment from hookspaken. I have brakes on my trailer and use bering buddys, and have on the last 4 campers. I know that you have to do the mait but the main Idea is not to allow your bearings to run dry. additionaly, depending on which kind you purchase. YOu can allways give the bearings a quick shot, under the just to make sure idea.
Just a thought
