CD skipping

I have an aftermarket single disk Cd player in my 2000 ranger. lately going over the smallest bump in the road causes the disk to skip. I can go over big bumps, train tracks etc... with no effects on the disk. Is it possible that the laser that reads the disk can be loose? Is it possible to tighten it? It doesn't affect the radio operation.

Sounds like an older deck, no? Most anything produced in the last decade will have a 30+ sec buffer.

Lasers can be tuned up but it's rarely worth the cost, cheaper to replace the whole thing.

Thanks for the info. I just can't figure out how the disk can skip going over the smallest imperfection in the road, while going over train tracks, pot holes etc.. has no affect on the disk.

Could be that a large hit triggers the buffer while small hits don't, who knows.
