Mine started out the same way. It would feel like it was sticking once in a while. It did that for the longest time. Some days it was smooth as glass, others it would stick a bit. Then it started to feel like it was ratcheting, getting tighter. Then one day it almost locked up on me turning into my drive way. I had to pull pretty hard and something broke loose, thats when some the ***** came out of the bearing.

At that point I had I guess about a 1/4" of play in the steering wheel. By play I mean I could sit in the seat and lift the wheel up and down, left and right about a 1/4".

Before it failed I had the steering wheel off and looked around didn't see anything. I cleaned and greased the horn contacts, greased the front end several time, replaced a tie rod that had a leaking grease retainer.

When the bearing finally failed, I was pleased, now I knew what the problem was and it was a simple fix.

I'm not saying that your bearing is bad, there are probably a million other things it could be as well. All I am saying is that if mine starts binding and sticking again, that the first thing I will replace.

Hope this helps.
