Got the shakes...
Hi all,
I posted a while back about the front end binding up, and I did the brown wire mod to disable the A4WD. That helped a bunch, but I'm getting a strange vibration from the front end (I think).
The best way to describe it is it feels like driving over rumble strips as you come to a toll booth. It's like you drive on rumble strips for 1 second, regular pavement for 2 seconds, pattern repeats. This is at about 45-50 mph which is where it's the most noticeable. It seems like it is worse after you've driven for a while, and it seems like it's a little worse when you let off the gas. Not much, but maybe a little. Could be my imagination too.
I just bought this truck with 170k miles on it a few months ago. I had new tie rods and ball joints put in my my mechanic because the alignment was really bad. I replaced the pads, rotors, and hub assemblies. This wasn't a complete waste, the hubs had some play in them and needed replaced anyways. Brakes were bad too. I think this may have helped a little, I don't feel any vibration in the steering wheel now.
So far I've concentrated on the front end and have done nothing to the rear. I plan to check on the brakes this weekend. What else should I look for? Could it be the bearings in the rear? I don't feel like I've wasted money so far, but I don't want to start.
Thanks
Brent
