Have any of you heard or installed electric fans. On a 2005 expedition because I am going to be buying a expedition eddie bauer the end of this week or beginning of next. And the fan clutch is bad was thinking of just investing in a electric fan.
I installed a pair of fans that came from a 2000 Lincoln LS and they have been working great. Less engine noise, better throttle response and supposedly more power for whatever you want to do.
I got them from a local U-Pullit yard for less than $40.00.
I have two more questions what fluid do I use in the transfer case. And what kind of transmission fluid. Every filter and fluid is going to be changed. Are there any other things I should check or change.
Amsoil is great, but you should follow the factory specifications on trans oil. Ford has gone from Mercon to Mercon V (synthetic) several times, back and forth. The Mercon V is the specified fluid for the 4R100 trans. I think your tans is a different model. Ford says "do not mix straight Mercon with Mercon V" as they are not compatible.
1) How did you wire up the fans? It looks like (I'm assuming) you used the factory harness from the Lincoln and then somehow wired it in with the Expedition harness?
2) Did you use the fan controller from the Lincoln as well? Just curious where you mounted the controller and how that aspect of the fan works.
I used as much of the OEM fan harness wiring as I could and then bought a two stage controller from AutoZone, taking the power from the solenoid hot side on the firewall. The brackets were made from some 1" aluminum flat stock bought from Home Depot and bent in my vise. It was all pretty easy and can be done in just a few hours with simple hand tools My fans came from a 2000 Continental 4.6 FWD. I chose them because they were the closest to an exact fit to my radiator.
The Expeditions and Navigators do not have a fan controller circut in the CPU so I had to buy the A.M. controller. If you do the same as I did be sure you do not use the kit supplied relay. Get the Ford OEM unit as the one with the kit will fail after a few months and cook the engine, don't ask me how I know.
I also have to more questions what tuner would you recommend. The other question is when I am idling, It has a periodic little shake did they have Iac valves in that year and could that be my problem.
I have no preference regarding a tuner at this time. I'm pretty sure that you have a IAC but, I have little experience with the 3 valve engines and my manual does not go that new so that is only an assumption.
