Transmission fluid flush

So right now im at the dealer and they are swearing that i do not need to replace the external filter on my torqueshift... I however know it needs to be replaced my question is can i replace this my self without draining the fluid first?

Yes, as stated it is external will just need to and about a 1/2 qt after look here
Motorcraft transmission filter for Ford Lincoln Mercury cars and truck
you need air or electric impact to remove then install by hand with a wrench or you may bend the pipes.

That is correct. Just did mine & an impact to remove it is a must. I lost so little fluid I didn't even need to add after the filter change.

Never had to use an impact on mine. The tranny will take exactly 8 ounces to refill. Make sure you use only Mercon SP or LV fluid.

Maybe mine was never changed then but i was starting to twist the lines it felt like. Mine needed to be "shocked" loose. Once I broke her loose with the impact took her off the rest of the way by hand.

It's kind of hit or miss. I've owned my truck since new. Some have the problem and some don't. Remember the O ring does the sealing. I coat it with vaseline and then just tighten till snug. It won't leak.
