Curious about this plug...

Anyone know what this plug is for? It has a protective cap on it and the wire runs down to the bumper and is tied into the harness for the auxiliary lights. It the proceeds to the drivers side and down towards the firewall. Not sure if it's actually tied into the auxiliary lights, but it's wrapped in the same protective casing as it proceeds throughout the truck.

I will have to look under mine when I get home. So it is on the drivers side correct?

Passengers side. Directly below the hood release latch and above the auxiliary light.

Wondering if it's for some off road lights that can be activated when the aux lights are turned on. I'll check with a multi meter here shortly.

Have the same thing and thought it was half of the block heater plug as well and then found the block heater plug below it. Also have fog lights so it isn't for them.

Tested it and it's running 12V at all times. Key on/off, lights on/off, aux lights on/off, high beams on/off. Door open/closed, hood open/closed. I'm out of ideas. Maybe an aux battery charger that will simultaneously charge both batteries?

I believe it's for a winch.

Interesting answer. But why would it always be hot? If it came equipped with a winch connection, seems like they'd add a control or switch inside and add $500 to the window sticker for "Winch Connection."

The Winch has the controls built in and the line needs to be hot at all times due to the fact if engine breaks down you can still use battery power to winch yourself out of a bad spot.

Alright then... So is this plug a pretty generic plug? Will just about any winch fit? Anyone recommended for fit with factory bumper?
