Once they started an investigation, the writing was right there. On the wall. It may seem arbitrary and unfair to terminate someone for getting robbed, but, even though I think it was too harsh, I understand it. Carrying large sums of money makes all drivers a target. Our pizza boxes clearly state that 'our drivers carry less than $20 in cash.' I think a written couseling would have sufficed in this case, though. Maybe if he'd been warned by management a number of times to drop his cash after every run. Too bad.
We had a robbery attempt once...our driver successfully fought off of the robber, kept her money and the pizza...
...and got fired for resisting...
And I bet she sleeps just fine each and every night. I like to think I would do the exact same thing in her case, given the opportunity to fight off a would be robber.
Kind of starting to sound like getting robbed is grounds for termination, regardless of the outcome.
Getting robbed is not grounds for termination. Resisting the robber is. Having too many $$ on your person when you get robbed is.

Really? I feel very differently. It's been many years and miles ago, but when I was robbed (at knifepoint, not gun point) I didn't resist a bit.
Generally speaking, a person who attempts to rob the pizza guy KNOWS that they aren't going to get a lot of cash...whatever the amount of food or dollars involved, it's not worth the potential injury to my person.
(I handed the guy the pizza, thanked him for calling my employer at the time, turned around a got my self back to my pick up truck quickly.)

I think you missed my point. I agree, I'm too old to worry about a trivial thing like a pizza or a few dollars (unlike my friend, I only carry my bank roll- $20- and my driver's license. sans wallet). However, if you didn't read about the other driver I mentioned earlier in the thread, he was accosted by a guy with a souvenier baseball bat. The guy tried to hit him from behind, but the driver saw the shadow (really, REALLY dumb thief) and was able to not only defend himself against the attack, but dished out a little bit of whoop-*** as well. I mean, be honest. If someone demands your money and all he has is a little stick, are you going to roll over or tell him to get lost? Guns involved? Naw, "here ya go. Sorry I only have $20 for you." Tiny bat? "Dude. get lost."

Oops. Sorry Stu. I thought you were referring to the original post. My bad.
Outnumbered. Take on armed thugs. Die. Nature's law????
I disagree.
I didn't live to be this old, being stoopid.

A pistol-packing pizza delivery man chased off an attempted robber, who was also armed, Wichita police said Thursday.
Miguel A. Waide, 32, was delivering a Domino’s pizza shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday at an apartment complex in the 6600 block of East Harry. Waide became suspicious he was being set up when no one answered the door, Lt. Doug Nolte said.
Waide returned to his car and retrieved a pistol from his trunk, just as a man approximately 20 years old came up and said he was going to rob Waide. As Waide turned around with the gun in his hand, the other man fled. Waide fired two shots at the man but missed, Nolte said.
Nolte said Waide didn’t break any laws.
“You have to look at the circumstances,” Nolte said. “He was being robbed and was protecting himself. In the state of Kansas, that’s not a crime.”
Police are still looking for the suspect. The public is asked to report any information by calling Crime Stoppers at 267-2111.
