hi,
i am in need of some advice. i have a 2001 f250 that has seen better days. it has shot 2 spark plugs out of the passenger side and i helicoiled both of them. a little while ago a third spark plug shot out of the drivers side. in addition to this the trans slips when under load and the body is beat.
i am fed up with 2 valve 5.4s and im trying to decide between a 12 valve cummins, a 7.3 powerstroke, or possibly rebuilding the 5.4 into something that i wont have issues with. im shooting for around 500ftlbs at the crank and whatever option i go with it will have a 5 speed, no more automatics. does anyone have any input on what they would do?
also like i said its a 2001 f250, automatic, 4x4 and it has 160k on it.
Yep, you will need a power adder to get that power number at a usable rpm. You can rebuild your bottom end with low compression blower pistons and add a set of TFS heads then top it off with a Kenny-Bell twin screw supercharger on top.
i really dont like the idea of a supercharger in something that im going to be putting through alot of work. right now im pretty sure im going to drop a cummins in it. when i get time this winter im going to start to pull the cab and bed off and start rebuilding from the ground up and when i get cash this summer then i will drop in a 12 valve cummins.
