Hello
I am new at this but i recently put a 351w motor in my 1973 ford f100 truck. I started it up yesterday and it turned on fine. I wanted to started it up again today and it didnt want to. I turned the key for a long time until it drained the battery. It has a new fuel pump to it and a rebuilt carb. I am barely 19 and i am still learning. If some one can help me solve this problem i would really appreciate it.
Welcome 73F100kid,,, we will ignore the fact that you are asking about a 73 in the 67-72 forum,,, mistakes happen!! Welcome to FTE,, first things first,, do you have fuel into the engine? next,,, do you have spark? as long as these two things are happenin,, and in the right time,, you should have noise,,, note to self,, ALWAYS go back to what you did LAST if you have a problem..... spray some gas down the carb,,, see what happens,, do you get some noise happenin? Be specific with what you have done and tried,,, the help will be better then, when we know what you have done. was is running, you went to bed,, woke up no runnie,, or did you change something after the fact?
Again, Welcome to FTE,, we WILL get ya goin!
Sorry i didnt realize i was in a 67-72 forum jajaja. And honestly i did the same thing as i did 2 days ago. 2 days ago all i did was put gas in the gas tank, and a little bit of gas down the carb and it turned on just fine. Had it running for 10 mins and turned it off and turned it on and it started up quick. Yesterday i did the same operation i added more gas to the gas tank and gas to the card and it just made noise till the battery drained. I did everything the same. Thanks and i appreciate your help.
take the gas line off on the motor side of the fuel pump and direct it into a bottle or container, crank the motor. If you got good fuel flow its carb or spark (check any inline filters) . poor flow ck pump and look for air leaks in the line back to tank.
if fuel is ok check spark at the coil, if thats good check spark to plugs
