Hey everyone, got a 2000 f250 5.4L 4x4 with 208000 miles! My coolant reservoir is split and I've been looking for a replacement at local junkyards and can't find the right one. Any ideas where I can find the style that sits across the top of the radiator like mine, or of a universal style that would work? Thanks in advance!
I had replaced mine on a V10. Not sure if yours is the same with the 5.4. Bought it from a local dealer here for $65 or so. Had to bargain him down because I could have bought it from another dealership out of state for a low online price. Here are a couple of shots.
I've read that it would be a good idea to replace the cap as well, but I didn't. It was still working ok so I skipped it.
Many dealership's parts dept. are selling OEM parts online to boost business. They compete with each other across the country. You can find the part you're looking for online at an out of state dealership's parts dept. that ships to you. They are aggressive on the price. You then take that quote to your local dealer's parts dept and start haggling. Chances are, they will come down somewhat close. You'll pay tax, but no shipping, which could be a wash, but you get your part now and not have to wait for it to deliver.
After some of my memory cleared , I remember that I too had replaced mine from an on-line parts store. Can't remember which one, but they are out there.
In the meantime, you may be able to repair your's enough to last for awhile. I used Auto Goop from Big Lots to repair the one on my beater daily driver. Still good after two years.
Don't buy the tank from junkyard as they fail mostly because of age.
California dealers are giving me 20% discount on parts after showing them my contractor license. My business is non-automotive, but all they need is some "excuse" to apply 20% less.
