i have a 94 300 engine i can rebuild to slip in the 96 f150 300 2wd is there any difference or will everything swap direct cause ones speed density and ones obdII or is it simpiler to rebuild the 96 300
The engines are identical. There is nothing engine-specific that makes one speed density, mass air, OBD-I, OBD-II, etc. Those are all functions of the engine management system - the PCM, wiring harness, and exhaust (in the case of OBD-II because of the additional O2 sensor).
There is nothing different about a '96 engine block compared to an earlier one, as already stated the differences lie in the additional sensors used on the OBD-2 system... which can be transplanted onto an older motor if necessary.
I'm not sure what different castings were made or what the changes were. That requires a lot more knowledge than I have. Maybe someone else knows, but I don't.
I don't think the block's really changed. in the 9th generation F150's.
The only difference I can tell between 1992-1996 for the 300 I6 is the power output changed in 1992-93 motors from 145HP 265ft lbs. and 1994-96 150HP 260ft lbs. of torque. 1995? or 96 introduced OBD II engine management.
The 5.0 in 1992-93 had 185 hp 270 lb ft and the 1994-96 had 205 hp 275lb ft for manual and 195HP for automatic models.
I think he's asking if they did anything like the 351w. The later years wereabout roller ready vs the older blocks. However I don't think the 300 had any changes such as that.

The horsepower and torque differences on the 4.9 are not a Model Year difference-but was different because of the different factory cams. The 2.75 rear axle ratio truck received the 145hp/265ft lb factory cam. And the other rear axle ratios received the 150/260 factory cam in the 4.9.
