I am going to be putting a 69 460 out of a lincoln into my 77 f150 4x4. It currently has the 300 straight 6 with a np435 4 speed. I have been reading a lot of posts that say I would need a spacer for the tranny and others that say none is needed. I am trying to do this the cheapest way possible.
I have a bell off of a 351/400.
Will a 390 Clutch and flywheel work?
Do I need a certain pilot bearing?
Any other problems I should prepare for?
the bellhousing will address the proper fit and position of the motor. you will need to either find truck manifolds or notch the passenger side frame rail approx. 1" deep x 4" long to accomodate the lincoln manifold. motor mounts are available through several sources as well.
The 69 -460 is neutral ballanced so whatever flywheel you use will need to match. The 390 IS internally ballanced but the 428 isn't so be carefull, I can't speak to the bolt pattern being the same though??
I just checked and a 390 flywheel won't work, it has a different tooth count so it won't match up to the starter.
