bought my first 6.0 need some pointers.

well i traded in my trusty 2001 5.4 with over 200k on the clock for a 2004 f250 xlt fx4 6.0 with 84,000 miles and a Manuel transmission. The truck is in very nice shape and seems to have been taken care of very well, that being said what should I do to to this truck to make it last long, as well as some minor performance and mileage upgrades.

My main questions are:
1. erg cooler or delete
2. opinions on exhaust systems?
3. opinions on head studs?
4. Tuners or programmers?
5. Which gauges?
6. any other upgrades recommended?

I use the truck for alot of hauling as well as a daily driver and work truck. It is kind of a go everywhere and do everything vehicle. I know there is alot of information out there about what to do to these truck, and i have read a bunch of it, but some of it is contradicting so I would love to know what is working well for everyone else.

Thanks

Congrats on the new rig!

Get a scan gauge II monitor your temps

Ect vs eot and ficm voltage

You never really want to see a 15deg delta in the temps unless pulling on a long up hill. Ficm never really wants to go under 45v

Do all your maint on time and properly and enjoy your good reliable truck

I will add to stick with motocraft oil/fuel filters each one has certain requirmwents if you run motocraft you wont have to worrey about it and the truck will run right
You could end up with Majoir Problems if you dont run Motocraft Filters

Also might want to install the Blue fuel pressure spring upgrade for injector Health

And every so often after its up to operating temp drive it like you stole it that will help keep the turbo operating properly I usually do it going up a hill to give the turbo veins a good cycling maybe 1 time a week

for Exhaust go 4inch out the turbo back for optimal sound and preformnce

then go to this thread and post your email dont read all the posts just post email for the spread sheets Mark has done a Awesome Job collecting info on the 6.0

And Welcome to the 6.0 Forum

As Benny posted above. you will have all the links and part#'s for the "blue spring" and most everything else that comes up in the spread sheets.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...ew-owners.html

It will be one of the most used tools in your tool box.

ok thanks, I took my truck to a local diesel shop to have them look over it. The only concerns they had with it were that the batteries were the original batteries (although they were still good), steering stabilizer was worn and there was an oil leak from the right side valve cover. Other then that they said it was good to go.

Any one else have the valve cover leak or hear about them leaking?

the truck has a 3,000 mile full coverage warranty on it but i don't think they will cover the batteries because they are still good, but i am going to see what they say about the oil leak and stabilizer.

Matt, welcome to the 6.0 addiction club.!

I'll 2nd the scanguageII for monitoring vital temps/voltages/readings.

update your signature, it still lists your 5.4, and you'll get a bunch of
flak about an edge on the 6.0 (and the airaid also)

Also consider Optilube XPD (via internet) or DieselKleen (from autozone)
to improve the diesel fuel. I've just switched to Optilube and I prefer
it's dispensor/bottles over the DieselKleen.

Most importantly, enjoy the mighty 6 oohhh.

Thanks, I updated it. I will definatly miss my 5.4 that thing was a tank and took major abuse, everyone with diesel that I know could not believe I did the things I did with it and it was on an 8 cylinder gasser

I have been using DieselKleen but I also run it with B5, so is the additive still necessary? Seems o me like one of the things on the list of additives I have seen floating around says biodiesel is great.

Also any idea about the valve cover leak?
