It has 238,000 miles on it. What are somethings I should look out for he says it needs a couple door lock actuators. I really apperciate the help looking a a 2010 expedition tommarow and if they dont want to negotiate the price will be looking at this tuesday when do the trans usally go. Do you guys think that's a descent price.
Door lock actuators are not a big deal. Do a few searches on this forum and you will come up with writeups on them. Take it for a drive, at highway speeds if possible, and see how tight the steering is as well as whether or not in wanders. Pay attention to whether you feel pulsation or not when braking. The front end steering components and ball joints often wear out or are not maintained on Excursions. Brake rotors "warp" easily if cheap pads are used or somebody drives the vehicle like it doesn't weigh 8,000 lbs. I don't know when the trannies usually go because I don't personally recall anyone having one fail. My Ex with the same drivetrain as the one you're looking at has 280,000 miles on it with an all original, unmodified drivetrain. Check the oil and the tranny fluid right after your test drive and you should have a decent indicator of how well maintained it is.
Seems ok, we might need a few more details though. Good Maintenance? Records? Looks like it needs a bit of bodywork on the right rear. I looked at several with 250k plus that had original drive-train - it depends on the owner's maintenance.
Considering I just spent $15,400 on an '04 6.0L w/129,000 miles and all records, I would keep looking. If you're heart is set on that one, you should ask for his previous registration to make sure it really is a "southern vehicle". I'm skeptical of anyone from the North or North East Craigslist that claim their car has never been exposed to the salty roads of the north. I once saw an ad where the guy was selling a car and claimed it was in Arizona and had never seen a winter... except the picture of the car had tags from New York... Ask for his prior registration forms to verify the car really was from the south.
And unless he's really good mechanically, I would be skeptical of his claims that he did all the maintenance himself. He could be covering up the fact that he didn't do ANY maintenance on it and since he has no receipts or proof it's easier to just say he did it himself. I would check the maintenance schedules and see how complicated they are before taking his word.
Since these are ALL used at this point, I've spent the better part of a year looking for the right one for me. I've let several "slip through my fingers" that I'm now glad I let go. Take your time, don't be in a rush and get a good one with low miles and a good documented maintenance history.
Yeah thats one thing that kind of sucks for me. Is we moved from Arizona last year to up here. There is not much up here. In the line of excursions. I am hoping the expy works out.
there is a thread (search for "free autocheck" include the quotes)
that lets you look up a vehicle by VIN (look @ the later posts, there
was a change to the URL you need to use).
It will give you a good idea of WHERE the vehicle has been and
how many owners....
Personally, unless you are dead set on a 7.3, I would consider a
newer vehicle than an '00. Not pushing you into a 6.0 (although I love mine), but you are considering buying a 12 year old vehicle.
