I have an an 86 f250 6.9 regular cab 4x4 t19 trans I have brake lights but no turn signals and it's confusing the heck out of me I put a relay from my other truck in it (atleast I think it's the turn signal relay) round metal relay in the fuse box the fuse Is good and I figured even if the po hacked into the wires in the rear for the flatbed conversion I figured the front lights would still work but I have nothing I can't figure out why
Update: still no turn signals but I noticed with the key on I have backfeed through the brake/turn wire that is really low voltage that doesn't even fully light up the led tailights I just installed (had no turn before either) and each light will turn off when I turn on the turn signal
I had this problem with the 84, usually its if the PO hacked into it for a trailer brake controller. I didnt have brake lights, what i did was this:
Tapped into the ground wire on the left side running bulb and then put a screw in the bed for a new ground. THEN....i put the rear harness from my dad's 86 in there and that helped, it gave me running, turn on both, then brake on one side. Another problem is the plugin things for your trailer lights that you just plug and play, those cause havoc on the harness if its old as you think.
It has a 7 large rv flat looking at what I have seen so far looks good my néw tailights are grounded GOOD! They have brand new self tapping screws to be grounding the back lights I will try grounding the front lights to the frame see if that help
I ran a ground today and still no turn signals on either side I can't figure it out there is a few spots where stuff has been hacked but nothing it seems that has to do anything with the brakes
I was wondering though are the brake lights and turn signals on there own wire?
On my 89 the turn signals are on the same circuit as the reverse lights. This may be a dumb question, but have you checked the fuse? I have a manual switch wired for my reverse lights and it shorted out once and keep blowing the fuse, leaving me with no signals.
Checked every fuse in the fuse box not one of them is blown not sure how to check the fuseable links all I can say is im really confused also does anyone know where the wires from the brake switch and turn signal meet? I wanna try disconnecting them and see if it changes anything or should I just disconnect the rear harness from the front and see if that gives me signals in the front?
Anyone have any idea where I should check? I looked last night it has the stock harness for the back all the way to the rear then it has the wiring to the tailights
I had this problem on my 85. Also had the same problem on my 62 GMC. Traced the wires back to the column switch. (Which had been replaced a year earlier) Everything was good. Juice was going into the switch, it should have been working.... What I found was there were little rivets in the switch that connected the wires to the contacts. Both on my Ford and my GMC the little rivets were not conducting the current. I believe I heated in a little bit of solder to solve the problem or I swiveled the connectors until they made a connection.
May not be your problem, but its worth looking into.

Thanks for the idea I will remember that but I know it's not my issue I pulled the steering column from my parts truck because the steering column that was in there is junk and I know the switch itself works because it did in my parts truck
