I have a 2001 F-150 and have installed a hypertech programmer. And after putting it on with my other mods (exhuast, fipk kit and 160 running theremostat) I am pleased with the difference. But I am wondering if I can put a chip on it as well. Since the programmer reads the computer I would think it either one would pick the chip up and accept it or two the chip would cause the programmer to have problems with the programming. So I am unsure if i can have both or one or the other.
thanks I appericate the answer. Ive been gone so it took me awhile to get back to it. Also what part of Va are you from? Thats I grew up in King George.
I'm not to sure about that, when I was looking into putting a chip in my truck it was recommended that I go with the programmer, they told me that I could do both, of course this was for the superchip programmer and they where saying I could have both the superchip programmer and the superchip.
As far as I know the superchip programmer and the superchip will work together, on the programmer you just choose not to install the programming and then you can use the tuner section to adjust shift points, different tire sizes and a lower gear set. In fact I have a superchip programmer and am planning on buying a superchip because I need special programming for the headers, throttle bodie and mass air flow sensor I'v put in.

Here are the facts:
A Superchips Microtuner (SCMT) and a chip will not work together. A SCMT reflashes the computer's ROM. A chip overrides the ROM.
You cannot choose not to install the programming and just use the SCMT to adjust tire size and gear ratios. You must install the tuning. That is why a SCMT requires premium fuel.
If you get a chip, sell the programmer because the chip will override it.
ssKable, I hope you got the real message I was trying to get across in my above post . . . It wasn't meant as a jab at you, only my poor attempt at humor to let you know your dealer was just trying to make another sell.
BTW, I'm not sure if you will need a custom chip due to your new headers or not (have to ask Ken about that one) BUT if you're selling your SCMT (SuperChips MicroTuner) I may be interested!! shoot me an e-mail
Its all good, thats just what I was told but now that you mention it the dealer probably was just trying to make 2 sales. I just returned my truck to stock programming because I installed a mass airflow sensor, throttlebodie and I'v had headers for a while. I am deffinatly going to sale my scmt so I'll send you an email.
