Im looking to put dual exhaust on my Ranger. But Im not sure which one to buy that will sound the best and give me the best performance. I was wandering if yall had any suggestions. I have a 96 Extended Cab, Short Bed, 4.0l
I'm planning on getting on Flowmaster 50 series muffler duel out the back. My friend has it and it sounds great. That is my opinion, it costs $225 total at my local muffler shop.
well it depends how loud u want it. i have the 50 series flows with turndowns. its got a really nice rumble to it and isnt to loud, u can have an easy conversation with it and u can still here the music. my friend has a chevy s10 with the 4.3 l and he had flowmaster 40 series( the louder muffler) he had duals out the back and it was not that loud. i think he had like 3 in tips at the most, they were small. he just had it rerouted to go in front of his wheels through the side skirt and i have yet to here it. i have also heard that gibson makes a good cat-back exhaust. its about the same price as flowmaster, acctually prob more but i think they are all stainless steel, but they dont make duals for the ranger i dont think. i hope this has helped you.
by the way i have the 4.0
If you are gonna add duel exhaust and you have a charcoal canister..aka..vacuum canister.. make sure they bend it enough not to touch it.. mine rubbed a hole slap through it and after 6 trips to the garage...( I kept telling them it acted as if it was something like a vacuum leak..me being a girl..what do I know right??!!).. well after the egr valve, sensor, plate, downstream o2 sensor, intake cleaned out, new gas cap... they discovered it.
I just installed a Gibson Dual Sport Truck Exhaust System on my truck last week. It's a dual exhaust system that exits behind the rear passanger side tire (same as stock). You can get the kit for $320 Aluminized or $425 Stainless. Anyhow, the install was really easy. A friend and I pulled out the stock exhaust and had this one installed in under an hour. It looks nice, it sounds nice (turns heads downtown without being too loud on the highway) and there was a very noticable gain in perfomance. Just driving down the driveway after installing it my friend was already commenting on it and I could really feel the performance boost behind the wheel. Also as is stated the response time is much quicker.
I've had several people comment on the performance gains after having rode in the truck with it installed because you really can feel it. By the way, my truck is a 99 Ranger XLT Flareside, 4DR, 4WD with the 4.0L V6 Engine.
I am very pleased with it and in my opinion it was well worth the money. I would deffinitly purchase it again.

I've heard that you have to remove the spare tire to put in the Gibson Dual Sport Truck exhaust. Is that true? Just curious.

Well, as stated no... You can easily install the new exhaust without removing the spare tire. However, you may have to remove the spare in order to remove the stock exhaust. Unless of course you are like us and just cut the stock exhaust pipe in half... That made for EASY removal!!
I've got dual 2" pipes running from a Y from my converter back. All custom, going into 3"x20" tips. Sounds AWESOME!!! Check out my www for some pics. Cost around $250. Sounds a lot better than the Borla split rear catback system I had prior to this.
My straight through red bullet glasspask has a nice rumble without being offensive and only cost $20. Have had it on for over a year now and still enjoy the sweet mellow tune she plays. I bet if you try one you won't bother with the duals.
I put my glasspack on not to long ago and its real muffled. It sounds nice idiling but when accelerating the sound worsens. I think this is due to the fact that it has 2 back to back cats on it. My uncles four banger has the same glasspack but is twice as loud and he only has one cat. I am looking at a jegs Powertone Muffler-Back System http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...50&prmenbr=361
I was wandering if i put this on will it really sound ne different. And if not is there a way i can get it louder or am I going to have to get a special kit to split the 2 cats and run another pipe.
