I just started having a problem with my wiring. I think its a short but can't find it. Whenever I am driving my truck the lights will dim slightly for a less than a second every 10 to 20 seconds. Along with that, if I have the heater on, the fan shuts off, and the the panel lights aren't working... I have checked everything in the engine and behind the instrument panel compartment and can't find a short. Is there somewhere or something else I need to look at? Any help is appreciated!
My lights used to do the same thing...a new headlight and dimmer switch fixed that. the panel lights may be from corrosion on your fuse box...the fan im not to sure. maybe your voltage regulator is going out...just some thoughts
sounds like the old "blinking lights" syndrome...look on the tech article page for the "brighter brights" headlight relay setup. Whiter Whites, Brighter Brights .: Articles
could be your headlight switch, could be the dimmer switch in the floor, could be corroded wiring somewhere.
there are better ways to run the lighting circuit (which you'll see in the article).
have to say...although this sounds like the old blinkings lights problem, i'm not sure how that would be affecting the heater fan. you may want to post this in the Electrical forum, there's a guy there who really knows his stuff.
Simplest and cheapest place to start are the grounds. Battery to block, block to firewall and block to frame. Then start on your problems. Bad grounds probably cause 85% of electrical problems. I'm sure this will not eliminate all your problems, but it does need done.
