auto/manual hub conv.....

i am swappin out to manuals and i wanna use the late model ratchet nut but the lady(b) on the warn 800 line says I cannot use them ...anyone know why or why not????I think i will be fine but she seems to think it wont work some feedback pleeez

I think you're talking about the spindle nut on the 3-screw auto hubs (later model) when you say rachet nut, maybe I'm confused too. Anyway, the nut is different on the 3-screw hub, and those with it have to get a "conversion kit" (basically the old style, two spindle nuts and a washer) to switch the manual hubs. The 5-screw auto hub conversion shouldn't require this. You basically pull the old stuff out up to the spindle nut and pop the manual in. If you put the new style nut in, the hub shouldn't fit properly. When I swapped to manuals on my 96, I had to change the spindle nut BACK to your style. The setup is strong, I'm happy, and I think others who have more miles logged on theirs with tell you the same thing. Hope this helps.

when i say ratchet nut i mean the nut that clicks as you tighten it it is a late model nut from like 97 f-150 and up and othe people have used them with no trouble what so ever i just wanna know why it wont work there is plenty of clearence and nuthing binds that double nut with lock ring is junk and should never be used the late nut fitts and i do not see any reason it wont work.i have been running it this way for three days now

have you tries the manuals before you changed the spindle nuts to see if they would fit or did you just go by the basic rule from warn?? i really wanna know why you cannot use that nut set up becuzz i am baffled by it all it works in my truck ...hell for the heck of it i am gonna pull one side apart tomarrow and see what it alll looks alike................

I'm not familiar with the late model nut. But hey, if it's working right now then I guess it works. You'd be the best judge of that. Good luck.

on the warn hubs with the late model spindle nut and no trouble at all even lokked in today and slung some MUDD....................
