Transfer case not fully engaged
I recently put a bearing kit in the BW1356, manual shift, in the 89 f150.. on the bench it worked .. seemed to shift and lock the drive chain when in 4 hi and low..
Got it back into the truck and it appears that there is something not fully engaging, as I hear a engine RPM related "ticking" type of sound.. almost like the 2-4 wheel drive collar is not mated completely. It stuck in 4-low, but I did get it back into 2-hi after working with it.
As I re-assembled it I remember that it seemed like I needed to change the depth that the main shaft went into the end bearing, (which was changed), in order to make the collar engage. I also noticed that the main shaft bushing was lower in support hole.. in order to make it line up correctly. Anyone have an idea what may be causing this and if there is a measurement / spec associated with the distance the main shaft is set in the end bearing? and/or a spec on the bushing depth from the deck of the case?
It also looks like the planetary gear that is attached to the main shaft rides at a different height.. not exactly flush with the top of the gear that is locked in the case.
any ideas would be greatly appreciated..
Steve
All sounds normal again...
