help engine swap

Hay guys, I removed the 302 from my 1990 F250 and installed a 1970 351C. All fit nice but can not get it ti fire. I am using the existing wires and am wondering if that is ok or am I going to have to do some rewiring. I do get some firing but I think it is missing something. Anyone have any ideals???

I'm guessing you used the wiring from the 70 motor, right? It basicly only needs juice to the coil to make it run. How did you determine what wires to run to the coil, alternator, etc.?

I suppose if you knew exactly what wires to use you could run the 70's motor "through" the computer that controlled the 1990 motor, but I'm not sure about that.

We are assuming you are using a carb. Because no one makes an efi intake for the 351c that uses any stock parts.
If its carb. What distributor are you using. Did you use the duras park box.
The alt from the stock engine would have bolted into the 70s alt bracket so wiring that would be no issue.
All sensors from old engine go into swapped engine to get the gauges to work correctly.
What trans are you using. The 90 has computer controlled auto.
Hmm
The original + wire to the coil could be used to power the coil and duras park box. Then you may be able to put the old - coil wire (green) to the new coil and backfeed a tach signal. If that don't work then you can run a new wire into the inst cluster.

Give us more info. Post a pic so we can see how you have it setup.
Points distributor is easy. One wire from dist to - coil. Add power to coil and it runs.
Duraspark is more wires but still easy. Red wire gets power. ( white is a 4 degree timing retard for starting.... Or nitrous) the green wire is - of coil. Then match colors of dist to the other wires of box. + of coil gets power with the box and it runs.
Msd is easy also. Don't need the duras park box. Black wire on dist not used. Orange of dist goes to purple of msd. Purple goes to green. (pretty sure. Been a while) ONLY orange and black go to coil (wrapped together) then big red and big black to battery. Little red goes to power. White not used cause its for points or Original - of coil if you're using efi to control timing.

You didn't match the two dots up on your timing gears did you? If you did you're 180 degrees out and you're not at TDC.

I did match up the dots as that is what the haynes book said to do. So can I now just pull up the dissy up and turn the rotor or must i pull the cover back off and redo it?
