Hi,
I'm trying to find a good mud and snow tire.I don't really care if it rides great on the road or not. Something reasonably priced too. Any advice would be great.
actually for snow and ice on a road an AT tire is better but not the ideal choice for mud.
If just talking pure offroad snow as in virgin unpacked snow then take your pick of the cheaper mud type tires.
Heck if just wanting a pure offroad ask around and find out who does recaps, was at tire store yesterday and a local farmer just bought 4 really aggressive mud recaps 16" rim for around $100 each. His truck rarely sees hwy use so they work great for him.
Anyone ever try the Cooper Discoverer STT's? My Mud Grapplers are slick as Clinton's willey and I need a new set of tires before winter hits in. I want something with good road maners and a long tread life for the stupid duty, but gives good traction in the snow when plowing, and does ok offroad. I'm not looking for an all out mud tire, just something to get me through the muddy pit areas when I'm pulling the ranger.
They gotta be quieter than the Mud Grapplers too. It's pretty bad when I can hear the tire roar over the loud azz dizzel when going down the road. Makes it really hard to sneak up on the bambi's too!
It's a lot more aggressive tread than an AT tire, it's a radial too so it won't ride rough and they hardly make noise on the road. They also balance really well. It's got a LOT of tread depth and grips really well.
Uh, I run a 35x12.50x18 tire to fit the factory rims on my stupid duty. There are a metric crap ton of cheap 15, 16, 16.5, and even 17" at tires. But for some reason when you hit that 18" wheel size, the pickins get real slim and pricey! I've found way more 33x10.50x18's (well the metric equivilant) than anything larger. It's almost like tire manufacturers are scared to make a decent 35" tire for my needs.
Stock size on a 2005 Lariat f350 is 18" where the reguar f250's and f350's were 17" I'm too white to spend useless money to go up to 20 or 22" rims....
