I have learned a bit about dualy wheels for F350's.
Up till about 79 Ford used a "coined" wheel made by Budd. The "coined" wheels fit into each other to lock them together. In the early/mid 70's Ford switched from a 16 1/2" to 16" wheel. I don't know the exact year.
Post 79 Ford used a flat wheel that was the same as some others used. The flat wheel took a band on top.
This is info gleaned from some local yards. I'm not sure if any or some of it is totally correct. Please post corrections!!!
Lucky for me, I found a set of 4 BRAND NEW 8.75 X 16.5 tires here in Portland at a used tire store for only $50 each. I'll put these on the rear and they will all match. I'll move the two new matching tires from the rear to the front once I get two of the wheels back from the powder coater. Two of the wheels on one side on the rear are newer non-"coined" wheels. I picked up 3, the only 3 they had, from a local yard for $25.00 ea. Now my spare will not be a split rim. Hopefully when they blast them they will all look good. I'm glad they don't cahrge by the pound for powder coating as these wheels are heavy!!
I have yet to move the truck. The tires are just so rotted that I was even afraid to drive it a few blocks to where I work. I can't wait to get this on the road.
my '68 F250 has 8 lug and any 8 lug ford till 97 will fit it. The 350 should be the same way but you would have to look for the duly(bud) rims.
Be careful on the 16" rims. My 68 has 16.5" and when I went to put the 16" on it the fronts would not take the 16's due to the front drum brakes.
I'll try the newer 16 1/2 wheels that are on the rear on the front just to see if they fit over the drums. I don't think they are Ford wheels as from what I learned if they are 16 1/2 they should be coined. I bet they don't fit because no one would stear on what was up front.
There is a guy here in town that has a 70 F350 with 16" coined wheels on it. When I get the truck on the road I may run it out there an test fit his. Then I'll have to be on the lookout for some. As we all know the supply of 16 1/2 tire is near zero. The last couple trucks I have had with 16 1/2 wheels I had a tough time getting tires before I could sell the truck. Luckily I found a nice set of 9.50 16.5 while looking for the 8.75 tires. I'm now all set for another truck with 16 1/2 wheels.
You can still get 12.50x33x16.5 tires. I've been running them on the rear of my F250 for over 25 years. I'm not sure about the smaller sizes. If the 350 is the same as the 250 GM wheels won't fit but Chrysler and Ford will; like someone else said the center hole is too small. I run 235x85x16 on the front with drums and they fit fine. The 350 might have the 3" brake drums and they won't fit.
