Here's an idea, don't know if anyone has done this. How about running a dual side-exit setup with the pipes exiting in front of the rear wheels? Similar to Gibson's super truck look, except on both sides. I'm thinking the crossflow flowmaster 80 series would be perfect, straight into the muffler, then straight out the sides. Would this cause exhaust to come into the cab? I also have chrome steps, would this damage them? Would the setup fit? Thanks.
I have heard the idea tossed around before and subsequently tossed out. The concern over exhaust entering the cab is one reason. The other has been emmissions laws in many states that will not allow for it to exit in front of the rear wheels.
A friend of mine has the gibson super truck setup (basically a twin side exit in front of the right wheel) and I don't think it breaks any laws. I'm pretty sure the driveline could be worked around, I asked a shop about the dual setup behind the wheels, and they said they could do it. I haven't looked into it immensely, but I know my stock exhaust bends alot around the axle, and I figure I'd get the same bends in the dual setup. It seems simpler to have the shorter pipes and less bends. It wouldn't surprise me if there were complications though. Has anyone actually done or seen this setup? It is it that nobody has ever tried it, or that it's just fact that it's a bad idea? I suppose there probably is a reason I've never seen it done, but then again I don't see many dual exits behind the rear wheels either. I appriciate the respnses.
well you dont want your exhaust to flow to well otherwise you will lose to much back pressure resulting in loss of torque. unless your motor is built an needs to get those gasses out in a hurry i would look into another setup. but it would look kewl
