390 cranks and backfires but no start

390 cranks and backfires but no start
so i went and changed my spark plugs and wires ( was running before) then after i put the new stuff on all it will do is crank and back fire no start i gapped the plug double and triple checked the firing order is correct. any ideas where could be wrong?

A couple of things would be make sure the firing order is going in the correct direction on the distributor. Other things would be to double check the firing order on the cylinders. I have seen people be confused by the Ford firing order, say compared to GM. Lastly, something I have seen first hand, if a previous owner had installed the distributor incorrectly, they may have started #1 not where #1 should be on the cap, but off one position. If you want to double check, get the #1 cylinder piston all the way up, then check to see if the rotor is pointing at #1 on the cap, where you have the #1 spark plug wire.
