I had a CPS go at about 6k after install.
Inexpensive, worth the effort to find out if that is your problem.
Either way, good thing to have on board for a spare.
I got the ICP yesterday, had no choice but use the dealer at $159!!!
But now I can't find a danged crows foot.
Awhile back I lost oil due to a HPOP seal, engine got really sour.
I'm gonna' try changing the oil before committing to the install of that $159 part.
What the heck, time for an oil change anyway....
What about diesel algae in tank?
Maybe a shot in the dark
Had this experience many years ago on an old Land Rover. It could run for hours when standing still. Once I started to move it took 3-5 minutes and the engine died. After some time it could happen to start again. This was caused by alga in the diesel tank laying on bottom. When I started to move they raised and clogged the filters. It drove me crazy for days until an old Moroccan technician told me to take the tank out, fill it with a little gravel, hot boiling water and Ariel washing machine detergent. Wash and shake it several times until clean. Also rinse filter and tubes with compressed air. Actually it made my day, and I drove the old shabby LR from Gibraltar to Norway, about 4000 km without any further diesel problems.

I just have to point out that I believe this is the most interesting first post I have read in my 7 years of being a member here. I sure hope to hear more stories in the future. Welcome to FTE.
Got an email from Snakebite, he doesn't have computer access.
He changed the CPS and still has the problem.
Next he is going to do the 50 cent mod, then a lift pump, then look into the HPOP.

I have a 2001 F350 with 7.3 230,000 miles on it. About 8000 miles ago I replaced fuel filter, fuel pump and dropped the tank and cleaned the filter in there(was really clogged, as seen in another post here) Today it just died going down the road at about 55 mph. No warning. I sat for maybe 10 min., drained some fuel off the filter to see if I had fuel. It then started right up and I drove 5 miles home, no problem. It now idles fine but I haven't put it back on the road. CPS? What is the difference in the Grey and Black ones and which should I get if that is it? I assume it can be intermittent. Thanks!
I have a similar problem. F350 with 7.3 at 230,000 miles. Have changed fuel filter, fuel pump and cleaned filter in tank. That was about 8,000 mi. ago. Now just died going down the road. Think I will change the CPS. Have read there was a recall of the one that is black, now they have a grey. Is one more likely to fail? Looks like they are likely to fail at any time. I have seen both on the net. Thanks!
Just run out to the dealer, they have them for about $17.
May as well grab two, throw the other one in the glove box as a spare.
That and a 10mm wrench is all you need to swap.
Sorry if I am in the wrong place but I posted here I thought. I have a 2001 Ford 350 XLT 7.3 4X4. about 8000 mi. ago I replace the fuel pump, fuel filter and dropped the tank and cleaned that filter,( was bad, like the pic. here somewhere.) The other day it just died on the road. I sat 15 min. and it started and drove home fine. Yesterday I replaced the CPS that I was refered to on Guzzle's site. Running fine, but then it did after dieing. I also found an old one it the glove box. Bought truck used. Have 235,000 miles on it. Thanks for the help, will get another one as a spare.

7.3 quits running while driving
<HR style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #d1d1e1; COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1><!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->My 2002 Superduty 7.3 runs great at 240,000 miles. Lately the engine will quit running while driving down the road. When this happens it will not start until it sits for one to two hours.
I have the same situation with my 03 7.3 with 114,000 miles. It ran great until one day it just died. All the symptoms of a CPS. Replaced CPS and ran great, towed my boat, and drove for a week, then it just shut off like I turned off the key as I was driving about 45 MPH with no variance in throttle. Pulled over to the side of the road and installed my "spare" CPS. No start, no tach, but all the other lights and gauges worked...it was dead. Called for a tow after an hour of fiddling with it, and by the time the tow truck arrived I decided to try and start it again. It started right up, and ran like nothing was wrong. I went ahead and had it towed home because I didn't want to be stranded again in the middle of the night. I have started it several times in my driveway and left it run for 30 minutes at a time with no problems. I connected a code reader and it is registering no trouble codes at all. Any ideas???
