ENGINE CODE and symptoms

Looked at a 97 crew today for sale with 103 thousand miles.

Engine compartment was very dirty with red clay dust.

Said he inherited the truck so doesn't know much about history ... owned by 88 year old grandpa.

P0344 Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Intermittent

Which one do I get to replace this? F4TZ-12K073-C

P0236 Turbocharger Boost Sensor A Performance
Replace what ...?

Symptoms oil is clean , coolant is clean. The dreaded white smoke occurs at cold start up (60F) for less than 10 seconds. Then as you accelerate it gives out tons of white smoke. Seller claims it did not smoke until a 2000 mile trip and overnight it started smoking.

With such low miles a local diesel mechanic says it might be a combination of the GPS and a stuck valve on the turbo?

Where is the truck/you located? Is the idiot light (CEL) on?The CPS is no big deal. Most of us carry a spare (very easy to change). I can't tell you anything about the turbo code (but someone will). The white smoke at start up is normal. The white smoke at acceleration is not normal. The first thing I would do is change the oil and make sure it is oil for deisel. do you hear a "wooooooosh(ing) noise under the hood near the turbo? If so ig could be the EBPV (Exauhst Back Pressure Valve) stuck. You can unplug it (it will fail open). iIt is located on the turbo frame on the driverside.
Can you give us anymore info?
How much is he asking for it?

I wouldn't worry about the turbo code if it looks ok. Pull the intake and check the wheel for play, little side to side is ok as long as it doesn't contact the housing, no in/out play should be there. Possibly pop the downpipe off and make sure no oil is in there. That is the best cps that ford has. I have that one along with the IH one just like it.

Truck on the west coast very near the beach. Parks on sand. This has caused pitting corrosion on the aluminum and removed protective coating on galvanized zinc exposed parts!

No lights on the dash ... normal startup. I am not a stranger to a 97 Ford F250 but not sure what gives the check engine light except for fail glow plug relay.

Definitely don't here the turbo spool up at acceleration just enough white smoke to think they're fogging for mosquitos.

Body and bed has damage from a jack knife pulling a gooseneck and surface rust on top surfaces
Black label on passenger side valve cover.

My concern is he drove the truck on the freeway for at least 1500 miles in this condition only to stop for fuel. (young guy who says owned 1 car ... HONDA and inherited this truck)

Can the turbo fail from the EBPV (Exauhst Back Pressure Valve) being stuck for 1500 plus miles?

Since it is for sale and don't own it I can't fix it. Plus if I do I will be in a worse position to negotiate the price.

He wants $7000. Interior is very clean, suspension is good, body is not good with the cab crimped and bed crumpled. Plus the white smoke.

Unhook the map sensor electrical plug and take it for a drive. Also check the map line to make sure its not plugged or cracked bad. Here is a link on a possible bad map with that code

i had that CEL code on mine and it was a faulty map sensor. but for 7000 bucks and what your explaining i would keep your money and run. you can get a pretty nice powerstroke for 7 grand on the west coast and the majority of them are rust free if theyre not right on the ocean

I was thinkin of offering him 4 grand and if the map sensor, cps, EBPV and turbo all replaced then I would end up with it around 5 grand.
