I was thinking of building a library in the shop. A room with bookshelves for manuals, and car books, a place to put model cars. I want it to be a place to chill out. A big lazyboy, a table to lay out manuals on when I'm working on stuff. A fridge to keep beer to drink while I'm thumbing through Sport Truck or Popular Hot Rodding. So what do you think of this idea and is there someone here who has done it?
I have a 12x12 "office" with my computer desk, parts/supply cabinets, manuals, documents, mags, books, etc as well as a table for "light work". It is not right next to the garage, but now that you mention it a door could be cut in since it adjoins the garage...
I would have to say that would be a pretty cool idea. A place where you could keep all of car magazines, manuals, and assorted other related items would be nice to have. Also, a fridge to keep the barley pop in is a must. Sounds like a good idea.
Darn right I have one. I built a two tiered bookshelf above my work bench. Like a lot of you guy's I have a fortune tied up in manual. I don't care what other's think, but any mechanic that say's he can remember all this stuff is nut's
I also have a small fiidge, it save's me a lot of walking and fussing from the wife.
I like the idea of a set of shelve's for model's or possibly for my trophy's. ( I drag race)
Yes, I will have an office/library in my shop. Right now, I just have a shelf for all my repair manuals. My wife doesn't think I need an office in the shop. I tell her "It's somewhere I can sleep if you are PO'd at me", which never happens I'll have a desk, computer, shelves, couch and/or reclining chair and a beer fridge. I have no space in my current garage for most of this stuff, except fridge and shelves. I'm quickly running out of room
Got one, love it. Includes fridge, small microwave, books and catalogs, place to work on fishing tackle and small electronic parts, stereo, tv and a couple chairs for conversation.

I don't have a garage either my screened in patio is my workshop and my tools share a room with the washer and dryer. However i do have an office/library/junk room/gun cleaning and repair area/computer workstation/...........well you get the idea.
The double garage is attached to the kitchen (refrigerator). The back three acres serves for relief. Oh yeah, I built a several library shelves in the garage. And some 30 year old Sycamores provide the shade for the mechanic.
Print & Electronic Library- PC, 29" Flat Screen, S-VHS,DVD, Sattelite Feed. Recliner, Bar Stools, Drafting Table & Chair, Freezer, Coolers, Toaster Oven.
Electronics Bench, 3 work bench's 36"D x 6'L on wheels. Drill Press, Grinder, 2 Compressors + Air Tools, Jacks Stands Hoists.
I still need to get the ok for bending jigs, welders, plasma cutter and the all important "Hide-A-Bed". The bathroom/shower is in the mudroom between garage & family room so I'm clean before I get a chance to mess up my wifes house!
