X2. They make ones specific to autos but the little ceramic cube ones work well. They have a t-stat, the housings don't get hot and they have tip over protection. We use them all the time up here in Canada.
Alright more info on these please!
Otherwise looks like im buying a blanket for the truck
I'm giving you a hard time, but good God man you sound like my wife, so I guess my advice is get a husband, LOL
Winter sucks for sure, if you don't have a garage. I always thought a great idea for the windshield would be electric wires built into the windshield, I think Chevys used to have that on the rear window defroster back in the 90's?
I usually scrape of the snow, start the truck, full blast defrost, have a cup of coffeeand go. 5 minutes tops.

Almost all vehicles have that on the rear window now, but most are fine enough wires you can't see them.
buy a mercedes. they have heated (to aroun 100*) washer fluid.
where i grew up, my neighbor would always dump a pitcher of hot water on the windshield and then use the wipers as quickly as possible. i was always expecting the windshield to break, but whatever lol.
get an electric blanket and put it over your windshield at night. haha
Ok a couple things Mark from Canada dont give our secrets away from the land of the igloo. second of all thats a brilliant idea they have tipover protection and if hooked to a timer they wont suck electricity all night. Also a buddy of mine from work used those windshield blankets and swore by them, just make sure you buy one from an auto parts store and dont cheap out on one meaning dont look for the cheapest but you dont have to get the most expensive one either.... ok rant over and enjoy the winter guys and drive safe
I used to put newspaper under my wipers and on my side windows (roll window down, insert newspaper, roll up to hold) at night. Remove newspapers in the morning for ice free windows.
I've used this method for years and no cracked windshields... but I only use COLD water.
I dont use the system but I think if you have a crack then maybe it will spread. I had a small crack many moons ago and put up one of those silver dash protectors up on a hot day and came back to see the crack grew.
