over fueling?

my buddy just picked up a 01 super duty with a 7.3. the exhaust smells like raw fuel. i pulled some codes from it. 1690,1316,0340. one of these is for the CMP. i ran a buzz test on the injectors and got a 1278 code, i cant find what that means. it only has 480-550max ICP at idle. any ideas?

Mine was like that when the hpop was weak after I first put in the ad's and 17.

The new hpop runs very smooth and better at idle. I understand why every one says they are oil hungry sobs because. 2400 is all my t500 can build for pressure with the big tunes but it still runs great and the DC way down.

I'd change the fuel filter for sure and refuel the bowl with sea foam just to clean any carbon off the nozzles.

well, being a SD, it already has a 17 and AD's. i keep wanting to lean toward the IPR or the UVCH

There are codes stored in the IDM , a buzz test will tell us .. Most likely an issue with the UVCH ...

is a wastegate code ..


1316
Possible causes:
Injector(s) or circuit(s)
Open or shorted IDM enable circuit
Open/short in EF circuit
Open/short in FDCS circuit
IDM relay
IDM powering circuits
IDM
PCM
Check for other codes.

Yea I'd lean to the UVCH. I got the code mixed up.

the buzz test came back with a 1278. i dont know what that is. one of the other codes was for the wastgate, unrelated,right?

DTCs P1271-P1278 indicate a low side-to-high side open in the circuit between the IDM and the injector. The following table lists the circuits to inspect while performing these pinpoint tests, based on the DTC retrieved during the KOEO On-Demand or Injector Electrical Self Tests.
Note: If all of the DTCs associated with an entire bank are retrieved, the high side circuit is most likely open.

1 P1271 555 (T) 1087 (O) Right
2 P1272 556 (W) 878 (PK/Y) Left
3 P1273 557 (BR/Y) 1087 (O) Right
4 P1274 558 (BR/LB) 878 (PK/Y) Left
5 P1275 559 (T/BK) 1087 (O) Right
6 P1276 560 (LG/O) 878 (PK/Y) Left
7 P1277 561 (T/R) 1087 (O) Right
8 P1278 562 (LB) 878 (PK/Y) Left


Disconnect injector valve cover connector.
Install Glow Plug Injector Adapter 014-00935 or equivalent to valve cover gasket.
Measure resistance between the high side and low side on the injector. Refer to injector illustration at beginning of this pinpoint test for proper pin location.

There is an issue with the wiring to an injector or two .. The newer style valve cover harnesses , they Can & do come unplugged under the cover . Ford makes a part for it . Or you can do the 50 cent mod ...

Could be a rubbed through wire causing a misfire on that cylinder. We got the 1271 and 1273 when I wasn't getting good contact on the vc plugs afterplug replacement. It wasn't firing on the 1 and 3 cylinders because of it.
