IDM codes found??

Truck started running real rough, low power, shutters real bad. Could just be me but it seems like its using alot more fuel but i could be wrong on that.

im showing codes p1274 and p1316. I pulled the passenger side valve cover and checked all connections and wires. Everything looked perfect, connection was super tight.

I just started to pull the driver side and i can see that three of the wires going into the connector are exposed with the insulation falling off. They didnt seem to be touching each other or any metal but i could have moved them.

Could that be the problem? should i pull the VC and check the wires inside?

do i need to order a new harness for the topside or can i just liquid tape it?

any other things to check ?

all help is GREATLY appreciated

Wiggle the harness around a bit and see how it affects the truck. If you can hold the harness just right and the truck runs smooth, you might just be able to tape them up.

If none of the copper strands are damaged, tape should work fine. If some of the wires look too bad, a new pigtail may be in order.

I feel your pain. That's the worst bolt of any on either valve cover. I think the passenger side is easier just because of that bolt. Just keep cussing the stupid Ford engineers who wouldn't make the truck 2 inches longer so there was actually room to work on it and you'll finally get it.

After your done, look here in the 6.4 section for pics of their motor and you'll feel better about the 7.3. Here's a pic a Ford diesel tech posted of how you have to work on the 6.4

Kind of makes that one bolt not seem so bad.

got the last bolt out and got a quarter in it. The truck runs better then it EVER has. It sounds different and just runs like a animal.
