99 F350, auto trans, 4x4. In the engine bay fuse box. If you are standing in front of the engine, on the very left row of fuses, the 4th one up from the fire wall is a large 40 amp orange fuse.
What does this control? I just found it blown. What would cause it to blow?
My truck will NOT start when cold, but starts just fine when plugged in. My glow plug system is operating correctly and all my glow plugs are good, including the GPR.
That should be Fuse #16, a 30-amp Maxi-fuse, and it's labeled Trailer Tow Battery Charge. That should not affect your ability to get it started.
I suspect either I have mis-interpreted which fuse you are describing, or ?????
There is no 40-amp fuse supposed to be in that row, the one closest to the passenger-side fender. Once you get past the double-row of small fuses, it's the one in the center of those seven Maxi-fuses, right?
If so, that one is supposed to be a green fuse.
Disregard the "here" and the "X", the photo is for a different thread.

Pop
Nope, that is the correct fuse.
I wonder why there was a 40 amp in there instead? Also the mini 7.5 fuse in the front left of that picture is blown too. That's also related to the trailer wiring.
What would cause these fuses to blow? My trailer wiring seems to work just fine (I have the round connector, all my trailer lights and brakes work when it's plugged in).
Drawing more current than the fuse is rated for will cause them to blow. That's sometimes caused by a short in the trailer wiring, sometimes by a short in the truck's wiring, and sometimes by attempting to drive too many bulbs on that circuit.
Replace that small fuse and see what happens.
The small one is Fuse #1, Trailer Tow Left Stop/Turn Lamp.
Do you need an Owner's Manual? It has all this stuff in there.
