Failed emissions
My 1986 f-150 302 efi multiport failed emissions for the second time, High HC; CO and Nox within limits. New plugs, dist cap, rotor, new O2 sensor. Checked timing , pulled codes, got a 44 (thermactor malfunction)But all the air system components check out OK. Any Ideas?

By "air system components" do you mean the diverter valve? The solenoids? It would be better if you told us which components you tested than let us guess, with each of us coming up with a different answer.

Sorry. I mean that the air pump is working, the bypass valve is functioning , vacuum getting to it when the engine is warm. As far as I can tell the diverter valve is functioning when vacuum is applied. I was going to remove the tube at the cat, but it was frozen

I don't remember how the computer tests the thermactor, but I'm sure it is described somewhere on the forum. Just search for that and you should find it easily. Then check it the way the computer does.
