Question clogged cat test idea

Is it safe to run the 4.9 with just the exhaust manifolds? I am trying to determine if my cats are plugged and thought it would be a good idea to just take the pipes loose from the manifolds. Would it cause any damage? Is there a better way to check for clogged cats?

So I pulled the 02 sensor to take restriction off the exhaust, but it still runs like crap.

It will fire off, but then sputter and die.

Any Ideas?

The sensors will be disconnected with the pipe off which will be a problem in itself. Have you pulled the codes? Also, if your truck has 100,000 miles or more on it the Cats are due/overdue for a change anyway.

The check engine light is not on.

It does not appear to be throwing any codes.

I will simply cut the exhaust from in front of the cats tonight
