HELP with AOD Shift Selector Shaft

I'm in the middle of putting an EFI 302 and AOD in my 1974 Ford F100. I bought a Lokar kit that will help me extend the rod from the shift column to the transmission that will let me use the column shift for the AOD. In the instructions it says in order for me to get the old selector shaft out to put in the new Lokar shaft I need to pull this roll pin out using some side cutters and prying against the case of the transmission. Now I have been trying this tactic for hours now and have not gotten the slightest budge on it. My side cutters just can't get a good enough grip on it and I can't get my smallest vise grips on it! I am hoping there is someone here who has done this before as I am ready to get the drill out! Any help would be much appreciated!
