Spring rate will determine ride quality. Generally speaking most trucks with lift blocks will ride somewhat better than the same truck with lifted springs. Where you will notice the biggest difference is in axle wrap. The lifted springs will have faaar less of it.
4 u-bolts and 4 leaf spring bolts is all there is to it. Maybe the lower shock bolts if it starts to fight you a little. A good floor jack, two good jack stands and a good 1/2" drive deep well socket set is about all the tools you should need. Id spray everything down with Kroil or PB blaster a day before you begin to help out with rusty bolts. Depending on thread length you may need new ubolts. Its a pretty simple, very straight forward swap for your average driveway "mechanic."
haven't run across and wood lift blocks in person, but a kid i went to h/s with bought the autozone special $30 lift blocks.................for the front of his 78 f250, still drives it on road even after i told him he is a fwaktard of epic proportions
The 76 powerwagon my buddy used to race had a wood body lift and a square tube front blocks.
Ah the good old days of bring drunk and stupid enough to ride on the street in that death trap yelling woo woo the whole time. I don't know how I survive visiting you... There is always some drunken epicstupidity going on.
