NC is an open carry state, so really I could just lay the gun on the seat (or walk down the side of a busy road with it over my shoulder), but of course everyone would freak out. NC passed legislation a while back that banned those rear window racks, claiming it blocked the drivers view

That argument doesn't even make any sense. EVERY commercial vehicle on the road doesn't even USE a back window and they seem to do fine. Did NC pass legislation banning commercial vehicles, too??

Seriously? You must not own a dent. There are NO brackets. The bumper mounts directly to the frame. ....from the factory like that.

Back to the subject....

Here's my latest "mod". My truck didn't have a tool box, so I put one in.

My blonde moment happened when I drilled out the holes for the rear support bracket and drilled through the gallon of antifreeze I had in the bed. DOH!!!

Nice job on the added tool box. It took me months to find a replacement bed with the toolbox intact and not rusted to hell. I wish pick n pull let you cut the tool boxes out of roached beds. Except for the small fork lift dent in the door they are usually in pretty good shape.

A guy stopped me and told me he had a bed that was FAR BETTER than mine with a tailgate and tool box for $100. What he dropped off was a tailgate and a tool box connected by twisted rotted mess of sheet metal. I figured the gate and box was worth $100. I bought it anyway and cut the bed up for scrap and kept all the usable panels.

Because if I ever hit anything I don't want to rely on some cheesy bracket.

Um you could still make a bracket. One that bolts to backside of bumper then extends down and bolts to frame horn.

F250/350 Highboys have brackets. The cab and grill are about 3" higher than the others.
