before i start, i know anything is possible with the right tools and a deep enough wallet. but im looking for simplicity.
im in the market for a diesel SD. i found one, but its 2wd. how hard would it be to swap in a solid front axle? i didnt look at it much, but i saw coils and radius arms, so i assume its like a TTB front suspension? can i just put a coil sprung axle underneath with minimal modifications?
Some guys on here will tell you it's impossible, or not worth the work.
however, if you can grab a donor truck with a manual shift t-case, this is a very easy swap. The 4x2 and 4x4 share the same frame. so simply swap the stuff onto your 4x2 truck. attempting to do this using electronics will make it a nightmare...and probably impossible
Biggest detractors will be the trans tailshaft and driveshafts. 4x2 trans and 4x4 trans have different tailshafts. I've swapped them on Chevies before, but nobody on here seems to have done this...or at least admitted to it.
Also, you'd be old school and won't have a nifty 4x4 light on the instrument cluster.
