Van Advice
With the latest addition to the family coming soon, I'm needed to get a van that can hold 8+ passengers. Where would be a good source to begin researching about used, large passenger vans? My knowledge about large vans is limited to knowing that there are large vans.
Many thanks for any advice you might have.
I am in same pickle. I have four kids and having them in a mini all the time does not always cut. If you are looking at vans you can probably get a new conversion for a song compared to an SUV or pickup. If used you can probably get into one for 8k or less depending on how old you want to go. I have mixed feelings about mine. I have had it for almost 80000 miles now. I bought it around forty. Here are somethings that I have learned. If Ford look to see if there has been any front end work. If it is a low top this is not as important. With the high top it definitely is. The tops put a lot of extra weight on the front components i.e. ball joints, tie rod ends etc. You can do this your self but if someone has done it already all the better. A good investment would be heavy duty shocks and a steering stabilizer. These are both on my list. I am not picking on Ford front end components. According to a couple of mechanics I have talked to the other guys are worse. Get it alinged regulary or learn to do it yourself. With this much weight you will eat tires if you are just a little off. I would also look for any electrical issues that may arise. I must say that those are the two problem areas that I have had.
