Forgive a dumb question: I've got a new-to-me '96 PSD 7.3 and the mechanic who worked on it said the turbo is on its last legs.
I've found a local junkyard who claims to have a take-off turbo for this model year on the shelf for $250. That seems to be a decent price, but how can I be sure that it's the correct one for my engine? Markings on it, etc?
Once I have it I will be looking for a rebuild kit. Any advice appreciated.
OK I went ahead and picked up the turbo assembly with the assurance that I can return it if it is not correct. The P/N tag on this one says 1822702C91.
I will continue to do some checking but any indication that this is a compatible unit?
Anything from a 94.5 to 97 should work. Got mine from the junkyard for $200.00.
Bought a rebuild kit and ended up using the old bushings (bearings) because the new kit had very sloppy bearings. The old ones were tighter. BUT this (my) situation may have been a fluke, as no one yet on this forum has had my issues with the bearings that I know of.
