First Diesel, First Post.

After officially joining the world of diesel owners earlier this week, I figured it was time for my first post. The truck I was fortunate enough to find and bring home is a 2008 F-250 (man that feels good to say finally!) I've had the diesel itch for years now but just recently came into the means to actually buy one. When I started shopping I began looking at both 250s and 2500 Cummins, after driving both of them I felt the Ford was a better quality truck. No surprise there, the other Ford in the garage is going on 20 years old and feels new still. The dodge felt like it was cheaply built when I was behind the wheel. However after owning the truck for a few days I know face the problem of what I can do to spend more money on it to let it live up to its potential. As a new member to the site I look forward to becoming an active member and learning from everyone here. Now on to what everyone cares about....the photo!

that is a nice ride. Welcome to FTE. We are a good bunch so make yourself at home and ask away.

My first advice is for you to read the owners manual and the diesel supplement.

Secondly go up to the tech folders and check out all the info there. May take a couple of days but very important stuff for you to become familiar with this motor and truck.

Take note of the severe duty maintance schedule. That is the one to follow regardless of your drive cycle.

All that should keep you busy for a few days.

Another thing...stick to OEM fuel and oil filters. Aftermarket stuff does not fit correctly.

So...ask away!

The Number one thing to stay on top of is draining your water separator under the drivers side door on the inside of the frame rail. I would drain it at least monthly. Also Be sure to use a diesel additive such as diesel kleen, there are way to many additives to list here but DK is one of the easiest to find and cheap. Congrats on your new truck I just got my first diesel in September the one in my avatar.Had to have one after having a diesel company truck for years lol (at least thats what I told the wife).

Hello PowerStroking89, Welcome! I am new myself to the Ford Diesel thing. How many miles were on your truck when you purchased it and did you go with a warranty?

I did go with a warranty, 2 years 24k miles. The truck has just over 100k miles on it. I would like to get a programmer on the truck however I am concerned about the possibility of it voiding my warranty. I have read that the spartan programmer is undetectable to the dealers, anyone have any experience with this? Also what is everyone's opinion of their favorite programer?
